ENTERPRISE PROFILE
YeJ works in partnership with community organizations, public and para-public institutions, and private sector groups to introduce young people, from 8 to 24 years old, to state-of-the-art technology, and to help them express themselves dynamically through these new media.
CONTEXT
MISSION
Youth e-Mage Jeunesse believes that young people should be empowered to create new media, not just consume it.
YeJ offers young people, in particular the disadvantaged, the opportunity and resources to conceptualize and produce TV and new media products of their imagination.
YeJ is a non-profit corporation founded in Montreal in 1999 by a team of concerned media professionals and young people.
CONTEXT
In the last 10 years new information and communication technologies
have advanced at an incredibly fast pace and revolutionized our lives. Unfortunately,
many people in our society have been left on the sidelines, and are now in
effect technically "underprivileged".
Young people in particular are bombarded daily with information through the
internet, TV, films, and print media. However, many lack the means to understand
how these media impact upon their lives and affect their sense of reality.
The majority of young people are passive consumers of these media, rather
than active producers.
